Material Studies
2022-ongoing, digital photographs, dimensions variable
This photo series examines the visual special effects that can be generated by experimenting with "optically-active" commercial materials. My work draws inspiration from a number of theoretical approaches that prioritize processes. This includes Deleuze's philosophical approach, placing attention on experimentation and creation and Hollis Frampton's avant-garde structural film approach, emphasizing the significance of the creative process over predetermined outcomes. As a result, my approach involves surrendering to the journey of experimentation and fully engaging with the potentialities afforded by contemporary technologies. Photos capture chance interactions between various objects, creating a dance of process and performance.
